Health and Safety in the Workplace / Safety Statements

My company had a Safety Statement done in 2002. Is this still ok?

SafeHands Answer: No, health and safety legislation was updated in 2005 with amendments added in 2006 and 2007. Your safety statement needs to be reviewed and updated to comply with current legislation.

We have had a visit from a Health and Safety Authority Inspector. He was helpful, but has written to us with a list of items he wants us to address. What do we do next?

SafeHands Answer: We will visit your premises free of charge and advise you on a cost-efficient solution to your health and safety issues.

Why do I need a Safety Statement and how much does it cost?

SafeHands Answer: Employers and the self-employed are required under the 'Health Safety and Welfare at Work Act 2005' legislation to have in place, an up-to-date safety statement. Because a Safety Statement is specific to your company/organisation, we will visit your premises free of charge to give you an idea of cost – (with no obligation).

I run a small restaurant and employ 8 staff including part timers. Two of my staff are chefs and are trained and certified in food safety. Is it a requirement that the rest of my staff receive training?

SafeHands Answer: The minimum requirement for all food operatives is that they must attend a Basic Food Safety Training Course. Course participants receive a certificate of attendance.

Our restaurant has recently had a visit from our local Environmental Health Officer. She has requested that we implement a HACCP Food Safety Management System. What do I do next?

SafeHands Answer: We will visit your premises free of charge, carry out a survey of your operating procedures and draw up a HACCP System tailored to your needs at a reasonable cost.
